Isn't he freakin' cute? And, yes, I really named him Jesus. I'm alternating between the English and Spanish pronunciations to see which one he prefers. I'm not sure how old he is (his papers aren't as complete as I'd like), but he's definitely a runt. He got all of his shots yesterday, so he's a little stunad today but has little bursts of energy where he just trots around the upstairs exploring. The other kitties haven't really warmed up to him yet. Three days and they'll all be best of friends, I'm sure. And then he can keep Dinah company in NYC.
I started breaking in a new pair of Birkenstocks today. Not fun.
Went to the Farmer's Market expecting to pick up some oatmeal bread... but they were doing some sort of weird Earth Day celebration instead of the usual Sunday market. There were like "chants" and masks... uh. Weird. And the Compost Fair was set up, so there were lots of earth worms.
Ended up at the Commons to burn off my odd morning energy (this was around 11am. Me. Dressed, made up, and eager to get out before 11am on a Sunday. WEIRD.) Ate at Viva Taquera. They've got awesome burritos and sangria (little early for sangria, though).
Went meandering around the Commons. Bought a couple Ani CDs at the used record shop.
Spent money at House of Shalimar. I got the cutest purse ever. Ever ever. It's by Bungalow 360... they don't have it up on the website, though. It fits everything I need... and a little more. Sweet. (PS: That's the button from my museum vigil I hosted... kids are still wearing them around campus. YAY!) I also picked up a peace sign car magnet. At first I was like, "What's 1.20.09 supposed to mean?" And then it hit me. Uh duh.
As you can see in the picture, I also bought some soap. Coconut and papaya with vanilla beans smells like the beach and olive butter with avocado and green tea leaves smells clean. I got it at the Africa store called Diaspora. Very neat place and nice owners.
Anyways, I've got homework due in every single class tomorrow. Plus an 8:30am thesis meeting to prepare for (that's far too early for criticism, I think). All I wanna do is nap. Sigh.
From my Forensic Anthropology lab on Friday. We had to take pictures of bones (obviously). My group was left unsupervised for too long though...
My mom and I stopped at Greek Peak today. I'd never been before but my mom used to go skiing there when she was a kid. On the way back to Ithaca we stopped to look around the Virgil Cemetery. She gave a couple concerts at my school this week. I was able to go to this afternoon's (which I thought was supposed to be more of a talk than a show, but whatev's). One of her percussionists looked just like Robert Downey Jr., and that's only weird because he's the second person I've run into that could pass as his double. Anyways, yeah, she was pretty awesome.
And Baylor came in at number 2 on the "Alternative Lifestyles Not an Alternative" list, so I'm kind glad I got rejected from there the other day (in contrast, NYU was number 3 on the "Gay Community Accepted" list). The thing that made me giggle was in the "Students (Almost) Never Study" category there were 5 Florida schools listed out of 20. Oh yeah.
The video is pretty awesome, too.
Near Eastern Studies or Latin American and Caribbean Studies?
Near Eastern is 48 credits, while Latin American is only 32. I've already got a head start in Spanish and for Near Eastern I'd have to be proficient in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish, which would require learning a whole new language. However, I might actually be able to apply my undergrad thesis to my masters work if I went with Near Eastern Studies.
Man, I hate life-altering choices. At least I have until late August before I have to make the decision.
Wednesday: Scholar's Day went really well, despite all of us being wicked nervous. Everyone really loved our session (there were about 50-60 people there, eek!). I totally pronounced mujahideen correctly and I was so proud of myself! Afterwards, we got tipsy. It was pretty awesome.
Thursday: The vigil was crazy. There was a lot of traffic that came through, including two classes. At one point an art teacher hijacked my presentation, but oh well. It got the word out there and I've heard nothing but good things about it.
Friday: I had a psych test and I didn't even know it! Whatev's. I was supposed to celebrate Melissa's birthday with everyone but apparently they all got together on Wednesday without me. So, instead I went shopping (I got a pair of jeans at AE that I'm like 10 pounds away from wearing comfortably) and went to bed early (ah, sleep).
Today: So far I've gone to the Phi Kappa Phi induction. It was short and I didn't really know anyone there. They had medicore punch and sweets at the reception, so we didn't stay long. Tonight is the Honors Convocation, which is where I'll be receiving the Anthropology Award for Academic Excellence... and sitting around watching way smarter people get dozens of awards. That'll be loads of fun.
Upcoming: I register for NYU classes on Monday and I also have a psych paper is due, my first complete draft of my thesis is due on Thursday, my internship paper is due on Friday, the following Monday my mock grant proposal is due, a week later another psych paper is due, then my grant, thesis, and Methods final are all due on the SAME FUCKING DAY (May 6th) and I think I will be dead. Then it's graduation! YAY! So much yet to do.
I spent a better part of the afternoon making collages to dispaly during the museum vigil I'm holding on Thursday. They came out pretty decent.
Oh, and here are some pictures I took on Thursday evening:
Chrissy and I were showing Tasha (!!!) the Commons and that VW was parked on State. Crazy Ithacans.
So, I got rejected from UBC today. Apparently they had over a hundred applicants vying for 15 slots. That's some tough competition. Still, it sucks not getting accepted. I really wanted to live in Vancouver. Sigh. Someday.
But my NYU acceptance of my acceptance offer goes out today. WHOOO!
Also, kinda weird, but I got a letter from some high up office at Cortland saying I was recommended by my Spanish prof to tutor SPA 101 and 102 in the fall. Super cool opportunity but, yeah, graduating.
It would be pretty awesome to be able to speak Arabic, Hebrew, Persian or Turkish too. Very cool. read more
on hmm...
