Soooo... the new (and last) Futurama is awesome. It was an amazing experience getting to watch it with tons of people who adore it as well. I barely heard the dialogue over all the laughing, but the ending applause was just lovely.
Today I got in line for the WB panel. It was a crrrazy line and I was there an hour before the panel was supposed to start. So lots of standing and plenty of time to people (/creature) watch. I ended up about 12 or so rows back, sitting next to a couple of Jared fangirls that were about as old as my mom heh
It opened with the Watchmen portion of the panel. They showed the first 18 minutes plus a scene from later in the movie. I've never read it before, so I had no context for it, but everyone really seemed to love it. And it's so coollooking. Very nice feel. The artist, who everyone kept calling Mr. Gibbons, was very laid back and entertaining.
Then it was time for the F13 portion. They brought out the producers, showed us the trailer (I'm not sure why being as they play it on TV every two seconds), then brought out the guy who plays Jason and Jared. Then they showed the first part of the movie. Some nice kills plus a bonus sex scene. Jared was impressed 'cause he hadn't seen it yet. The Q&A was so short (I heard some people complaining too short, which I would agree with them) and there was nothing particularly interesting asked. Jared was, of course, radiant and came out in a scarf and did many hairflips. I've uploaded a video to youtube:
Afterwards I tried to get in line for the Robot Chicken panel, which I was so looking forward to, but the line was crazy long and I never would've gotten in. =( I really wanted to see Seth Green and Breckin Myer. Damn. Anyways, I think we're skipping tomorrow's Dollhouse panel since it'll definitely be too crazy with Joss actually being there. All in all, I don't think I'd do another Comic Con. There's just too little that actually interests me. The NJ con will hopefully be completely different. And more awesome, I'm sure.
So, I'm going to Comic Con this weekend. Here's what I'm excited for:
- Friday's screening of the new Futurama movie
- Saturday's Friday the 13th panel (with bonus Tall Guy in person)
- Saturday's Robot Chicken panel (with bonus Seth Green and autograph signing)
- 14th Street subway station platform, two vaqueros (one with an authentic teardrop tattoo!) playing guitar and accordion
- 42nd Street subway station, a bunch of Mennonites (maybe?) handing out literature and preaching into a microphone... did you know that God wants us to be better?
- Times Square... they have lots of lights and TV screens and stuff
- Some guy dressed up as the Tin Man taking pictures with tourists
- Rockefeller Center, some big ass tree or something
- Saks 5th Avenue Christmas windows (technically they're still covered up, but I peeked)
- Paparazzi outside of Sephora on 5th Ave... I didn't go in to see who they were stalking, though
- 44th Street, a homeless man being allowed to warm up in a Starbucks
- El Museo del Barrio, well, the hallway of the Museo 'cause it's closed for renovations til next fall
- Spanish Harlem is rougher than I thought it'd be... everyone's like, "oh Harlem's so gentrified now" but it seemed, um, rough to me (I wouldn't go walking around there alone at night, that's for sure)
To Live with Uncertainty. That's my grandpa =) It's neat getting to hear what he sounded like when he was younger.
Oh, yeah. I'll be there. With my momma. And we'll both probably have to take some xanex to deal with the inevitable social anxiety of being surrounded by so many fangirls. But it's in Jersey and I've got a little extra money from my student loans and it's pretty much a once in a lifetime thing. So, may as well just enjoy it. I'll probably end up giving away my photo-ops, though, 'cause that just creeps me out.
So, in doing research for my thesis/extra project that pertains to my thesis I came across an organization called SAFE (Saving Antiquities For Everyone). From what I've gone through on their website, they seem pretty cool. And after coming to that conclusion, I got a copy of their internship application. It's unpaid and online which is kinda weird, but it wouldn't hurt to apply. And it's right up my alley as something I know I definitely want to do with my life: put a stop to looting and destruction of museums (and archaeological dig sites).
Anyway, so SAFE has a couple of videos on YouTube that I found to be quite interesting when I was looking into my "extra project that pertains to my thesis" thing (I've been invited by a couple of my favorite professors to help organize SUNY Cortland's candlelight vigil/remembrance board for the 5th year anniversary of the destruction of the Baghdad Museum). You should check them out.
