I started breaking in a new pair of Birkenstocks today. Not fun.
Went to the Farmer's Market expecting to pick up some oatmeal bread... but they were doing some sort of weird Earth Day celebration instead of the usual Sunday market. There were like "chants" and masks... uh. Weird. And the Compost Fair was set up, so there were lots of earth worms.
Ended up at the Commons to burn off my odd morning energy (this was around 11am. Me. Dressed, made up, and eager to get out before 11am on a Sunday. WEIRD.) Ate at Viva Taquera. They've got awesome burritos and sangria (little early for sangria, though).
Went meandering around the Commons. Bought a couple Ani CDs at the used record shop.
Spent money at House of Shalimar. I got the cutest purse ever. Ever ever. It's by Bungalow 360... they don't have it up on the website, though. It fits everything I need... and a little more. Sweet. (PS: That's the button from my museum vigil I hosted... kids are still wearing them around campus. YAY!) I also picked up a peace sign car magnet. At first I was like, "What's 1.20.09 supposed to mean?" And then it hit me. Uh duh.
As you can see in the picture, I also bought some soap. Coconut and papaya with vanilla beans smells like the beach and olive butter with avocado and green tea leaves smells clean. I got it at the Africa store called Diaspora. Very neat place and nice owners.
Anyways, I've got homework due in every single class tomorrow. Plus an 8:30am thesis meeting to prepare for (that's far too early for criticism, I think). All I wanna do is nap. Sigh.
I spent a better part of the afternoon making collages to dispaly during the museum vigil I'm holding on Thursday. They came out pretty decent.
Oh, and here are some pictures I took on Thursday evening:
Chrissy and I were showing Tasha (!!!) the Commons and that VW was parked on State. Crazy Ithacans.
I saw three movies this weekend: In the Land of Women, Disturbia, and Hot Fuzz. Itlow sucked... really bad. Seth Cohen--I mean Adam Brody was pretty decent but surprisingly skinny (it distracted me a bit). Meg Ryan's lips are scary. It also had a cancer storyline and I hate things with cancer storylines. Disturbia was awesome. I can't remember the last time I jumped and screamed in a movie theater. And Hot Fuzz was amazing, which I knew it would be. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are my favorite on screen duo.
So, despite being in a movie theater for the better part of the (beautiful) day, we did make it outside for a wee bit. Below Chrissy shows off her new skateboard, there are some pictures from around Ithaca, pictures from the Poverty Awareness concert on the Commons, and blooming cherry trees. There are also a few random videos.
My sister. She'll wear a Tinkerbell backpack with wings and pose in the middle of Target. Awesome.
The fairy-man statue on the Commons; Chrissy and I making that pouty face that every girl on facebook makes; and the green, green grass I have missed so much.
I went to the Chili Festival yesterday afternoon with Chrissy and her boyfriend, Adam. Ran into an old co-worker from the South Asia Program who bought tickets for us which was so nice of her (the ticket line was ridiculously LONG!) Tried some veggie chilis. The best was definitely the Statler's. Had lunch at Ragmann's. And Chrissy bought a 1970's snowsuit from the vintage shop (I got a book from 1956 called The Highest Dream by Phyllis A. Whitney... I paid a dollar but then I found a dollar in the parking garage, so it feels like I got it for free).
Lunch at Ragmann's. The Lite Bite: half a tuna salad sandwich with a side salad with ranch, chips (me) and coleslaw (Chrissy), and the best rootbeer ever, Saranac (SO creamy!)
The only Starbucks in Ithaca. I actually felt really guilty for going there this afternoon but Juna's was super busy and we were short on time.
Those elevators in the downtown parking garage are so gross. Chrissy holds her breath when we ride in them.
The house that Chrissy's co-worker rents. He's moving in August and Chrissy's trying to convince my mom and I that it's the perfect place to live. Weeeeeeee'll see.
Chrissy had me do her makeup since it's her last night at work before she leaves for winter break in Florida.
Whole bunch of photos from this afternoon. L to R: Pretty house while we were driving around downtown; pretty door on Green Street; weird Santa at the top of the Holiday Inn; backside of the Commons--Pookie and Sebastian is GONE!; freaky looking Peter Pan; farewell to the neat spiral parking garage; and Ithaca Falls.
