Isn't he freakin' cute? And, yes, I really named him Jesus. I'm alternating between the English and Spanish pronunciations to see which one he prefers. I'm not sure how old he is (his papers aren't as complete as I'd like), but he's definitely a runt. He got all of his shots yesterday, so he's a little stunad today but has little bursts of energy where he just trots around the upstairs exploring. The other kitties haven't really warmed up to him yet. Three days and they'll all be best of friends, I'm sure. And then he can keep Dinah company in NYC.
And Baylor came in at number 2 on the "Alternative Lifestyles Not an Alternative" list, so I'm kind glad I got rejected from there the other day (in contrast, NYU was number 3 on the "Gay Community Accepted" list). The thing that made me giggle was in the "Students (Almost) Never Study" category there were 5 Florida schools listed out of 20. Oh yeah.
That's the interior of the Kabul Museum as of 2003 (from here). I believe close to 90% of their collection was looted and the majority of the remaining artifacts destroyed beyond repair. This thesis is depressing.
Trying to write my ANT 406 paper that's due on Wednesday. I'm aiming for 10 pages, though the final version has to be closer to 20. I'm writing about the impact tourism has had on Andean textile culture. The tourism part is kind of an after-thought, though, 'cause I just really wanted to write about Andean weaving... I'm an indigenous textile whore.
Anyways, while I was staring out down lib slope (freakin' freezing my butt off) waiting for my mom to pick me up, I came across this sign on a street lamp...
It cracked me up. And made me wish SUNY Cortland had entertaining graffiti like Cornell.
So, yesterday was my birthday... and I got flowers (how grown-up!) The flowers on the left are from my mom and the flowers on the right are from Taylor and Seth. The weather was ridiculously nice 'cause a cold front came through, so that made it a good birthday... as did the pizza from Gino's and chocolate cake from Wegmans. In a bit my mom and I will be going over to my grandparents' house to have cupcakes. The birthday celebration will continue to next weekend when everyone comes into town. I love birthdays.
So, I ordered the shirt I'm going to wear to Taylor's wedding the other day. I found it for sale on gap.com. I, of course, didn't proofread the order carefully before I clicked submit and it was sent to my old apartment. No worries, though. I stalked its progress on UPS.com and picked up at the old place before the current residents even knew it was delivered.
It's going to be a really casual wedding on the beach, so I'll wear it with a fun colored tank top underneath and some jean capris. I know it's a faux paux to wear white to a wedding if you're not the bride but fuck it. Those "rules" are pretentious. It's a pretty shirt and I'll get a lot of wear out of it.
This evening, after a lovely dinner at Banfi's (nice decor, good food, special treatment 'cause my sister works there), I watched a few episodes of a British show called Sugar Rush. I love British and Canadian teen dramas... they're way better than American ones. It's crazy the amount of nudity and swearing the British ones have in them. I was shocked when Emma Nelson said "bitch" on Degrassi, but on Skins you hear fuck every two seconds (I'm sure there's lots of "bad" British slang that's used but it doesn't register with me). Regardless, it's fucking cool. And I'm ordering Sugar Rush on DVD.
Also, I learned about "toad in a hole" in one of the Sugar Rush episodes. I looked it up on wikipedia and it's yorkshire pudding with stuff in it, topped with gravy. Sounds delicious. I'm always up for yorkshire pudding. And I heard the terms "pull" (the successful act of attracting someone) and "ginger pubes" (a "standard greeting" to all ginger people) which I looked up in the Urban Dictionary. I can't imagine ever using ginger pubes in a conversation but I think I'll try out "pull."
